Favorite podcast:

I enjoy some Huberman Lab episodes, but I'm really into Audiobooks while driving. Right now I'm making my way through the Game of Thrones series .

Product dental product:

I love using LightForce. As an orthodontist, now I have a fully digital and custom solution for each patient when it comes to braces.

If you could swap a different profession for a day, what would you choose:

While I'm older than 95% of the players now, I would love to be an NHL goalie for a day.

How do you handle working with anxious or fearful patients:

I work with a lot of kids who have a lot of anxiety coming into the office. We all know that getting braces on, etc. is pretty easy, but they have never done it before and hear from friends how things “hurt”. As a team we all remember to have empathy for what the patient is feeling and reassure them we are here to help them and encourage good communication. When patients know they can communicate how they feel with you openly, they tend to trust you more and it makes the appointment go much smoother.

How do you like to decompress away from the practice:

I have three kids ages 4, 2 and 7 months. So lots of my time away from the practice is spent with them doing family activities. I also have lots of hobbies including playing on a hockey team, golfing when I can, and also am big into pickleball now!

What drew you to the profession of dentistry:

I had a few major influential people in my life growing up who are dentists. One of them I practice with currently, Dr. John Firth. My uncle, Dr. Bill Uthoff, and also my friend's dad, Dr. Ron Lang, were huge influences in my life. There were many other dentists too I knew through other connections. It seemed to me that these dentists really enjoyed what they did for a living and had a great work-life balance. And they were right, I love my career! Having Fridays off is a plus!
